Manisa: 17-Year Missing Person Case Solved – Family Members Confess to Murder

Manisa Family Accused in 17-Year-Old’s Disappearance; Body Found in Kemalpaşa

Manisa, Turkey – A years-long search for Ebru Koyuncu, who disappeared in 2009, has ended with the discovery of her remains and the arrest of four family members, including her sister and former brother-in-law. The breakthrough came after the former brother-in-law confessed to the murder and led authorities to a burial site in İzmir’s Kemalpaşa district.

The case began on October 1, 2025, when Münevver Koyuncu, 60, reported her daughter, Ebru Koyuncu, missing to the gendarmerie. She stated that Ebru had left home in December 2009 and had not been heard from since. A public prosecutor was informed and an investigation was launched.

The investigation quickly revealed a complex web of relationships and secrets. Authorities learned that Ebru Koyuncu had been involved in a three-year clandestine affair with her former brother-in-law, Ufuk Köse, and had become pregnant as a result. Investigators theorized that Ebru disappeared after the pregnancy became known.

Suspicions Focus on Family Members

Given the sensitive nature of the case and the possibility of a family-related crime, authorities imposed a gag order on the investigation. Evidence and witness statements led investigators to suspect that Ebru Koyuncu had been murdered by her sister, F.K., Ufuk Köse, and her two half-brothers, M.K. And A.K.

On February 23, 2026, a coordinated operation was carried out by the Manisa Provincial Gendarmerie Command’s JAT (Criminal Investigation Unit) and the Şehzadeler District Gendarmerie Command. F.K. Was apprehended in Kağızman district of Kars province, Ufuk Köse was arrested in İzmir, and M.K. And A.K. Were taken into custody in Manisa.

Confession Leads to Discovery of Remains

During questioning, Ufuk Köse confessed to killing Ebru Koyuncu and offered to reveal the location of her body. On February 24, 2026, teams from the Manisa Provincial Gendarmerie Command, the Şehzadeler District Gendarmerie Command, the İzmir Kemalpaşa District Gendarmerie Command, and the Kemalpaşa Crime Scene Investigation Unit converged on a garden in the Armutlu neighborhood of Kemalpaşa, İzmir.

Following Köse’s directions, a search and excavation began at 11:30 AM. Investigators unearthed numerous bone fragments and skull pieces believed to belong to Ebru Koyuncu, who had been missing since 2009.

The recovered remains have been taken into custody and will be sent to the Forensic Medicine Institute for analysis and identification.

The Manisa Public Prosecutor’s Office has stated that the suspects – F.K., Ufuk Köse, M.K., and A.K. – remain in custody while investigations continue.
