During warm weather, winter-homologated all-season tires lose efficiency compared to standard summer or classic all-season alternatives. CAA-Québec reports that these tires suffer from less precise braking, reduced road handling, and accelerated wear driven by high ambient temperatures.

Continuous year-round usage degrades their performance progressively across seasons. Because users leave them on vehicles permanently, motorists frequently omit the regular rotation cycles normally prompted by swapping seasonal sets every six months.

Fuel Economy and Road Noise Penalties

Winter-homologated all-season tires typically generate higher rolling resistance than standard summer equipment, resulting in slightly elevated fuel consumption. Their tread patterns also produce increased noise on dry asphalt, particularly at highway speeds.
