SANTA CRUZ, tenerife, Canary Islands – Alejandro Morales Mansito, president of the Interinsular football Federation of Tenerife, spoke publicly Wednesday, addressing recent accusations and outlining his vision for the future of football on the island.
Mansito Responds to Pressure
Mansito, speaking on ‘Radio Club deportivo,’ addressed allegations and reported pressure for his resignation. He stated he remains focused on his work despite the ongoing investigation.
“I am perfectly calm, fighting for football and working day by day,” Mansito said. “I was calm from the beginning and so I continue. We are right now under an investigation, but we all know why this began… The president is very quiet and with 100% encouragement.”
He added, “The one who tells the truth, never fears anything,” referencing the recent restructuring of high-level positions within the federation.

Mansito expressed gratitude for the support he has received. He dismissed the complaint filed against him, suggesting it lacks merit.
“I am the same president who chose me, and I will work for and for football; that is the important thing now,” he stated.
He noted the outpouring of support from the community. “I have been surprised. I knew I had friends and people who appreciated me, but now I realize that there are many more than I thought. I’m going down the street, and people tell me to continue forward. He has changed the federation, and now we are giving him another new impulse,” he said.”But we know why that complaint comes.”
New Appointments and Priorities
Mansito highlighted the recent hiring of a new treasurer, legal advisor, and marketing director, emphasizing the importance of these roles for the federation’s future.
“It is a figure that did not exist in our institution chart,” he said, referring to the marketing director position. He reiterated his focus, stating, “What is critically important? The important thing is football; the other is going away by other levels.”
Challenges and Aspirations
The president acknowledged the need to enhance the Heliodoro Rodríguez López Cup, aiming to elevate its prestige.
Reflecting on a prosperous 2024 with visits from both men’s and women’s teams to Santa Cruz, he expressed optimism for Tenerife football in 2025. He voiced his hope that the Golden Ball award would be given to a player from the Canary Islands, specifically mentioning Pedri González.
Addressing Violence, Pursuing World Cup Opportunity
Mansito identified ending violence against referees as a key challenge, noting their unique position without a dedicated fan base.
He also confirmed ongoing efforts to secure Tenerife as a training location for several national teams in readiness for the 2030 World Cup. ”We had to work hard to get it because Gran Canaria presented up to six or seven sub-currencies,” he said, highlighting the competitive nature of the bid.

Mansito described a recent visit to CD Tenerife,where he met with Felipe Miñambres,the new advisor. he noted Miñambres’ enthusiasm for his new role.
