Maple Leafs’ Auston Matthews Seeks Medical Answers in Germany Amid Injury Struggles
Auston Matthews Visits Germany for Injury Treatment
Auston Matthews of the Toronto Maple Leafs is currently in Germany for an evaluation of his upper-body injury. He has been sidelined since November 5 and will miss his seventh game on Wednesday against the Vegas Golden Knights.
General manager Brad Treliving confirmed that Matthews is seeing a doctor he has worked with before. The trip is part of a routine checkup, but Treliving mentioned it is also to address his current injury.
Toronto has had to cope with many injuries, missing Matthews along with other forwards Max Pacioretty and Calle Jarnkrok. Earlier, center David Kampf was also ruled out due to a lower-body injury. Fraser Minten has been called up from the minors to take Kampf’s position.
Ryan Reaves Receives Suspension
Ryan Reaves has been suspended for five games due to an illegal check on Darnell Nurse of the Edmonton Oilers. Treliving stated that while he doesn’t want to see anyone injured, he recognized it as a mistake during a hockey play. John Tavares noted he thought the suspension was a bit excessive but expressed support for Reaves.
Max Domi Struggles on the Ice
Max Domi has struggled this season, registering only six assists and experiencing a 13-game point drought. Coach Craig Berube noted that Domi is dealing with injuries but remains optimistic about his performance.
