JEREZ, Spain – Marc Marquez of Ducati focused on electronics and other fine-tuning during a MotoGP test session in Jerez, while also pinpointing the cause of his crash during Sunday’s Grand Prix.
Dominant Performance in testing
Following a disappointing Grand Prix, Marquez dedicated Monday’s session in Jerez to intensive testing with Ducati. The eight-time world champion clocked a leading time of 1 minute,35.876 seconds. Marquez was the only rider to break the 1:36 barrier, outpacing Fabio Quartararo’s qualifying lap record from Saturday by 0.266 seconds.
Marquez was also among the most active riders, maximizing the available track time until the session concluded at 6 p.m. “We had an extensive test plan and evaluated numerous components,” marquez stated. “While there weren’t any major new parts, we focused on many details, some of which we initially tested in Thailand. I had a positive feeling throughout the day. It was a productive test.”
Electronics and Tire Evaluation
Despite dominating much of the 2025 MotoGP season, with the exception of errors in Austin and Jerez, Marquez continues to refine his Desmosedici GP25. When asked about the focus of the test, Marquez said, “We evaluated several different Michelin tire options and tested new electronics slated for introduction in an upcoming race – similar to those Ai Ogura used in Argentina.” He added, “We also revisited some electronic configurations from the previous season, many of which yielded positive results.”
Unplanned On-Track Encounter
Marquez also spent some time on track behind his teammate, Francesco Bagnaia. When asked if this was part of the plan, Marquez responded, ”No, it wasn’t intentional. He was running a 1:39 lap, and I was faster with a 1:37, so I caught and passed him. It wasn’t planned,” Marquez said.
Acknowledging the Race Day Mistake
Marquez addressed the cause of his crash during Sunday’s race. “Yes, I understand what happened. I crashed as I felt to confident – I need to avoid that in the future,” Marquez admitted. “I entered the corner too quickly, and I was aware of it. When I ran wide, I tried to maintain my line because I feel very comfortable in left-hand corners – it was my first crash in a left-hander. I believed I could save it, but it wasn’t possible. I was overconfident and need to be more cautious moving forward.”
