Marcelo’s Fluminense Fiasco: Brazilian Club Cuts Ties with Star Player After Embarrassing Incident

Brazilian club Fluminense has today, Saturday, decided to terminate its contract with Brazilian Marcelo by mutual consent between the two parties, following a recent dispute between the player and his coach at the Gremio match.

Marcelo was the victim of a “humiliating” situation in Fluminense’s match against Gremio, which ended in a 2-2 draw in the Brazilian Football League.

The incident occurred in the 89th minute when his coach Mano Menezes was preparing to approach him and first calmly placed his hand on his shoulder and entered into a conversation with him that Marcelo’s words did not please the coach, so the latter pushed him back to the bench and ordered him not to go to the bench.

Today, Saturday, Fluminense Football Club announced the termination of Marcelo’s contract by mutual consent, saying in a statement: “Fluminance Football Club and Marcelo Vieira have announced the termination of the contract by mutual agreement between the two parties.”

He added: “The institutional and emotional relationship between Fluminense and Marcelo still exists. His sporting name has recently been immortalized on the field.”

He concluded his statements: “Fluminense thanks Marcelo… and will continue as always to support his success in all his challenges.”
