SUNRISE, fla. — Veteran forward Brad Marchand, after a 14-year wait, once again hoisted the Stanley Cup as the Florida Panthers defeated the Edmonton Oilers 5-1 in Game 6 on Tuesday. The victory secured a second consecutive championship for the Panthers.
Marchand, 37, previously won the Cup with the Boston Bruins in 2011. He emphasized the difficulty of winning and the importance of everything aligning perfectly. “It feels completely different,” marchand said, reflecting on his journey. “I have so much more respect and appreciation for how tough it was to get here.”
Acquired by the Panthers at the trade deadline after 16 seasons with Boston, Marchand proved a key component in Florida’s Stanley Cup run. He tallied 10 goals and 10 assists in 23 games, boasting a plus-17 rating while playing alongside Anton Lundell and Eetu Luostarinen.
