SPIŠSKÁ NOVÁ VES – Marek Janečka, now coaching from the sidelines, recently discussed his early playing days in Rimavská Sobota, his evolving coaching style, and the challenges of leading Football Club Spišská Nová Ves.
Early Days in Rimavská Sobota
Janečka fondly recalls his time with Rimavská Sobota, emphasizing its pivotal role in launching his professional career. “Rimavská Sobota was my start to professional football, and I remember it fondly,” janečka stated. He credits the club with providing invaluable experience that propelled him to subsequent opportunities in Trnava, Hansa Rostock, and Karviná. After a less prosperous stint in Banská Bystrica, he returned to Rimavská Sobota, which he considers a crucial “restart.”
He expressed gratitude for the club and its passionate supporters. “I owe Rimavská very much and I will always like to go back there. I do not let them: people ferven, the atmosphere great, the time great.”
Reunion with Jozef Pisár
The recent match against Rimavská Sobota also provided an opportunity for Janečka to reconnect with Jozef Pisár, a former teammate. Both now serve as sports directors for their respective clubs. “I am glad for such meetings, because we should not forget that we have experienced somthing together,” Janečka noted.
Janečka humorously recounted learning a valuable lesson from pisár during their playing days. “Of course! I always have to pass the older player in the foot. This is the basis!” He described the pressure of being Pisár’s pre-match warm-up partner, recalling a stern correction after an errant pass. “I gave him a pass by chance at half a meter beside, he just looked at me, ‘Young, where do you put it?!'”
Transition to Coaching
Janečka’s move to the bench was prompted by the illness of head coach Pavol Mlynár. Initially stepping in as an assistant, Janečka has since taken on a more prominent role following Mlynár’s decision to step down due to health concerns. “In the first round, when we tied in Poprad 0: 0,coach pavol Mlynár was sick and had great temperatures,so I already coached from the position of assistant,” he explained. “Then it continued for the coach’s personal and health problems. He officially confirmed this week that he would have to end. We will have to deal with this situation.”
While acknowledging the temptation to return to playing, Janečka is committed to his coaching responsibilities. He prioritizes giving opportunities to younger players. “At the moment I certainly do not plan to return while I am a coach. It’s not fair to boys who train all week to go to the expense of a young, albeit only 20-30 minutes. I’d rather give a chance to a young boy.”
Coaching Style
Janečka describes himself as an “impulsive coach” who isn’t afraid to express his emotions. He contrasts his style with that of more reserved managers. “I’m not an Ancelotti coach that I will have a chewing gum and chew on the bench. It’s not me.” He identifies more with coaches like Diego Simeone, known for their passionate sideline presence. “rather, I like the type like Diego Simeone, which gives bombs. I like that. The coach is supposed to live with the team, show emotions, frequently enough draw attention to himself to lighten the team.”
Ultimately, Janečka is persistent to remain true to himself as a coach. “I will go my way, weather someone likes it or not. Just as I was my player,I will be my coach and I don’t care what others think.”
