Bogotá: A Cultural Hub is Overlooking Its Limits

Artbo, the Bogotá International Art Fair, was established in 2004 and has since become a distinguished event under the Chamber of Commerce of Bogotá (CCB). The fair has grown significantly, expanding from 14 national galleries and 15 international galleries in its inaugural year to a robust 67 artistic exhibitions spanning 26 countries. The Bogotá Fashion Week, another cultural milestone, concluded its seventh edition in 2024 with a staggering participation of 18,000 people at the Agora Convention Center. She emphasized her involvement in cultural, social, and business development, stating, “My line has always been cultural, social and business development. I think I’m open to new possibilities, although I don’t go to the Ministry of Cultures.” This sentiment highlights her continued interest in cultural initiatives and their societal impact.

Under her leadership, Artbo evolved from a modest art fair to a comprehensive program that included exhibition spaces, internationalization efforts, and artistic development. “I linked to the camera in 2012 and was appointed director of Artbo Feria, which grew as a comprehensive program for plastic arts. This also had exhibition programs, where we opened a space for plastic arts, places for internationalization, democratization, in addition, we work for the formation of artists. I had the possibility of being in places like Bogotá Fashion Weekend, to participate in initiatives for gastronomy, for music through Bogotá Music Market.”

One of the standout achievements was the creation of the Artbo weekend and the Bogotá Fashion Weekend, which, unlike the Fashion Week, is free and open to the public. These initiatives were designed to foster social engagement and decentralization in cultural events.
