Mariners Outfielder Victor Robles faces Suspension After On-Field Incident
Seattle Mariners outfielder Victor Robles is facing repercussions for a display of frustration during a rehab assignment. robles was suspended for 10 games by Major League Baseball on Tuesday following an incident in a Triple-A game on Sunday.
The incident occurred during a game between the Tacoma Rainiers and the Las Vegas Aviators. In the third inning, Las vegas starter Joey Estes threw a pitch inside to Robles, who reacted by swinging to avoid being hit. After dropping his bat, Robles picked it up and threw it in the direction of estes, leading to his immediate ejection by home plate umpire Joe McCarthy.
This incident follows a pattern of Robles being hit by pitches. He had been struck three times in his previous four games with Tacoma, which appeared to contribute to his reaction. after being ejected, Robles continued to express his frustration, taking steps toward the mound while yelling at the pitcher before being restrained by McCarthy and Las Vegas teammates. He then threw a box of snacks onto the field before leaving the dugout.
The 10-game suspension will be served at the MLB level once Robles is activated and returns to the Mariners. He is expected to appeal the decision, hoping to have the penalty reduced or overturned.
