Former Liga MX midfielder Mario ‘Mono’ Osuna has disclosed the financial realities of top-tier Mexican football, highlighting the salaries earned by prominent players, including Francisco Guillermo Ochoa. During an appearance on the reality program La Granja VIP, Osuna detailed the earnings from his own career alongside figures he encountered in the locker room.
Guillermo Ochoa’s Earnings at Club América
According to Osuna, Francisco Guillermo Ochoa commanded one of the highest salaries during their time together at Club América. Ochoa returned to the Mexico City club in 2019 following stints in Europe, rejoining the squad as a primary figure before eventually retiring after the 2026 World Cup. Osuna and Ochoa crossed paths at Coapa in 2021 after the midfielder joined the institution that same year. During that stint, Osuna noted that Ochoa earned approximately 6 million pesos.

Mario ‘Mono’ Osuna In the same conversation with Fernando Lozada, Osuna also mentioned former central defender and World Cup participant Francisco ‘Maza’ Rodríguez. According to Osuna, Rodríguez earned roughly 4 million pesos per month while playing for Club América.
Monarcas Morelia and Osuna’s Peak Salary
Osuna, whose professional career began with Dorados de Sinaloa before stops at Querétaro, identified his time with the now-defunct Monarcas Morelia as the most lucrative period of his playing days. Following Monarcas’ transformation into Mazatlán FC, he continued with the new franchise prior to his move to Club América. The highest monthly salary of his career reached 750 (mil pesos) al mes while playing for Monarcas Morelia. He additionally recalled that the team’s primary goalscorer at the time brought in about 2.5 million pesos monthly, though he did not name the player directly. Historical squad rosters from that era featured Peruvian forward Raúl Ruidíaz as a leading reference for the club. Osuna’s career also included a brief spell with the Mexico national team. Following the 2014 World Cup in Brazil, Miguel ‘Piojo’ Herrera called him up for friendly matches against the United States and Brazil. He subsequently made a brief appearance during the group stage of the 2015 Copa América against Chile before Mexico exited the tournament.
