Singapore Tourism Board Appoints Marissa Sim as Area Director for Northern and Southwestern Europe
The Singapore Tourism Board (STB) has appointed Marissa Sim as the area director for Northern and Southwestern Europe. Ms. Sim will manage strategic planning, business development, trade engagement, and marketing for Singapore in the UK, Ireland, Spain, Portugal, and the Nordics. She will start her new role on December 1, 2024.
Ms. Sim is moving to London from her previous position as the assistant director for hospitality industry development in Singapore. In that role, she worked with hotel partners to support business recovery after Covid, focusing on technology.
She contributed to the creation of the Hotel Sustainability Roadmap, collaborating with the Singapore Hotel Association.
Ms. Sim expressed her enthusiasm for her new role, highlighting the significance of the European market for Singapore tourism. As of October 2024, visitor arrivals from the UK increased by over 26% year-on-year to a total of 486,690 visitors. Similarly, Spanish visitors rose by over 18% year-on-year, reaching 58,820 visitors.
She looks forward to collaborating with market partners to sustain this positive growth and attract more visitors to Singapore. Next year, Singapore will celebrate 60 years of independence, providing an exciting backdrop for tourism.
Ms. Sim has been with the Singapore Tourism Board since 2013. She succeeds Michael Rodriguez, the current area director, who will return to Singapore for a new position.
