Mark Cuban, the “Shark Tank” star and vocal supporter of Kamala Harris, revealed he was invited to be considered as her running mate in the 2024 presidential election. Though, Cuban declined the opportunity to play a significant role in the campaign.
During an appearance on “The Bulwark” podcast,interviewer Tim Miller mentioned rumors circulating at MSNBC about Cuban potentially joining Harris on the campaign trail. Miller inquired whether Cuban had been asked to submit vetting papers, to which Cuban confirmed the rumors.
Cuban elaborated on his decision to decline the vice president role, stating that he doesn’t believe he would be effective as a No. 2 person. He expressed concern about potentially disagreeing with the president and admitted he is ”not real good at shaking hands and kissing babies.”
“The second part of that, my response was I’m not very good as the number two person,” Cuban explained. “And so if the last thing we need is me telling Kamala, you know, the president that, ’No, that’s a dumb idea.’ Right? And I’m not real good at shaking hands and kissing babies.”
Ultimately,Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz was selected to play the role of Harris’s running mate. Other potential candidates reportedly included Arizona Sen. Mark Kelly, Illinois Gov. J.B.Pritzker, former North Carolina Gov. Roy Cooper,and Transportation secretary Pete Buttigieg. Donald Trump, who won the 2024 election, chose JD Vance as his vice president.
