Hoppus recounts the profound effect of Tom DeLonge’s departure after more than a decade of collaboration. “When the band went to pieces, it’s as if I had lost everything,” Hoppus writes. “I no longer had a direction, I had lost confidence in myself and I didn’t know who I was. I happened to hear one of our songs in a shop and I had to get out of running.”
