Phil “Number eight” Jones, a Welsh rugby international in both codes, earned a reputation as‌ a tough player, often facing sanctions for on-field conduct. Despite his disciplinary ⁢record, Jones played 15 times for Wales from⁤ 1987 to 1990 ​before switching⁢ to rugby league with Hull.

Jones debuted for Wales against Scotland⁤ in⁢ March 1987, scoring a try in a 21-15 defeat. In October 1990, he joined Hull in ⁢rugby league. Ankle injuries initially‌ hampered his progress, but he later won 11 caps for Wales, including two at the 1995⁢ World Cup where Wales‌ reached the ‍semi-finals.He also​ played once for Great Britain against France ⁢in 1992.

After⁢ four years with Hull, Jones played for⁣ Warrington before returning to rugby union with Ebbw Vale.
