Mark Ruffalo Drove Illegally for 13 Years With Suspended License

Actor Mark Ruffalo revealed he drove illegally in Los Angeles for thirteen years while operating with a suspended driver’s license and a bench warrant for his arrest. The revelation came during a recent interview with IGN while promoting his upcoming film, Crime 101, set to release on February 13, 2026.

Ruffalo explained that despite the legal issues, he became a remarkably cautious driver during that period. “I drove illegally in LA for like 13 years on a suspended driver’s license with a bench warrant out for my arrest,” he shared. “But you wanna know something…I became the best driver in LA. I never broke a law because I was too afraid I’d get busted.”

The actor credited meeting his wife, Sunrise Coigney, as the catalyst for resolving the situation. According to Ruffalo, Coigney discovered the outstanding warrant and his suspended license shortly after they began dating, leading her to briefly end the relationship.

“The only reason that I dug myself out of that hole is when I met my wife,” Ruffalo recounted. “She found out that I had a bench warrant and my license was suspended, and she broke up with me. And I was like, ‘I’ll fix it. I’ll fix it. No, no, no, no, you can’t break up with me because of that.’ And she’s like, ‘No, I need to be with someone who is serious about life, and you, you’re not even taking care of the fundamentals.’”

The admission comes as Ruffalo prepares to play a detective in Crime 101, a film where he will be tracking down a jewel thief portrayed by Chris Hemsworth. The film also stars Halle Berry.

Ruffalo is widely known for his role as Bruce Banner/Hulk in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, beginning with The Avengers in 2012. He has also received acclaim for his work in films like Zodiac and 13 Going on 30, as well as a Tony Award nomination for his performance in Awake and Sing!.
