Indian Stock Market: Sector Rotation and Financials Leading the Charge
Updated May 28, 2025
The Indian stock market is experiencing a healthy rotation, with different sectors attracting buying interest and ensuring continued upward movement following a period of consolidation, according to Rohit Srivastava, founder of Strike Money Analytics. This rotation is key to sustaining the market’s momentum.
Srivastava noted that financials, particularly non-banking financial companies (NBFCs), are currently leading the rally.Favorable interest rate cycles and low valuations are driving this outperformance in the financial sector.
After a recent correction, public sector undertaking (PSU) stocks are building a base and present attractive, low-value investment opportunities.Srivastava suggests these stocks, across various segments like PSU banks, oil and gas, and power finance, will likely participate in the next upward move.
The metal sector is also poised for gains, with anticipation of a commodity cycle upturn. While precious metals like gold and silver have already performed well, Srivastava believes other base metals will eventually follow as the rate cycle shifts downward.
While a breather would have been nice, it does not look like that might happen as there is a lot of rotation…different stocks are continuously finding buying interest and rotation is what ensures that after some consolidation the market again bumps up.
What’s next
Srivastava anticipates a slow and steady upward trend in the Indian stock market, characterized by higher highs and higher lows in key indices. He expects the current consolidation phase to end soon, with the market breaking out on the upside.
