Chris Mederos, formerly under coach Marc Montoya at Factory X Muay Thai, has relocated to Glendale, Arizona, to train at The MMA Lab. The rising cost of living in the Denver area prompted the move, wiht Mederos seeking a new environment to enhance his MMA career.
Mederos visited several gyms before choosing The MMA Lab. He values the gym’s team-oriented atmosphere, reminiscent of his experience at Factory X. The transition occurred before his fight with Hubbard, and he quickly resumed training at The Lab afterward.
“I went to a couple gyms and I loved The Lab,” Mederos said, explaining his decision to move to the desert. “I like what they stand for, I like the environment, I like how it’s a team, as that’s what I came from at Factory X.”
A meaningful difference Mederos notes is the mentality. While Factory X emphasized finesse and precision, The MMA Lab, influenced by figures like benson Henderson, promotes a more aggressive, relentless approach.Mederos aims to integrate this assertiveness into his fighting style, balancing it with his existing technical skills to gain an edge in MMA.
“The mentality is a big thing (that is different),” Mederos continued. “If you look at the top fighters at Factory X, it’s a lot more finesse, a lot more touch — and I still have that — but the mentality here…is balls to the wall, ‘Let’s go!’”
He added that the new focus is about knowing when to be aggressive. “I think that’s the biggest thing I’m taking from it is that sometimes you’ve got to bite down on that mouthpiece and go. It can’t always be finesse, which is what it was at my last gym.”
What’s next
Mederos plans to continue honing his skills at The MMA Lab, integrating their aggressive style with his existing finesse to become a more well-rounded and formidable fighter in future competitions.
