Marshfield Medical Center-Wisconsin Rapids Campus is set to open its doors to patients on , bringing expanded healthcare services to the Wisconsin Rapids community. The new campus, located at 440 24th Street South, complements the existing Marshfield Clinic Wisconsin Rapids Center at 220 24th Street South, offering a comprehensive range of medical care under one umbrella.
Expanding Access to Care
The opening of the hospital addresses a critical need for increased access to hospital and emergency services in the region. “We are bringing hospital and emergency services to Wisconsin Rapids to combine with our ambulatory medical group practice,” explained Chris Soska, president of Marshfield Medical Center Wisconsin Rapids Campus. “Marshfield Clinic has provided care in Wisconsin Rapids for decades, and now we can offer access to comprehensive care closer to home for the community.”
The new facility will feature inpatient beds, a dedicated emergency department, and a suite of exam and procedure rooms. Diagnostic capabilities will include general x-ray, computed tomography (CT) scans, and ultrasound, alongside on-site laboratory testing. This integrated approach aims to provide timely and accurate diagnoses, facilitating efficient treatment plans.
Integrated Services and Extended Urgent Care
The Marshfield Clinic Wisconsin Rapids Center already provides a broad spectrum of outpatient services, including urgent/walk-in care, cardiology, family medicine, optometry, cancer care, pediatrics, physical therapy, podiatry, and nephrology. The hospital’s opening will see a significant enhancement to urgent care services, with hours extended to 8 a.m. To 8 p.m., seven days a week, now integrated directly within the Emergency Department.
This consolidation of urgent and emergency care is designed to streamline patient flow and ensure appropriate levels of care are delivered efficiently. Patients experiencing less severe illnesses or injuries will have convenient access to extended urgent care hours, while those requiring immediate attention can be promptly assessed and treated in the emergency department.
Part of a Larger Network
The Wisconsin Rapids campus is not intended to operate in isolation, but rather as a key component of a broader, integrated network across Marshfield Clinic. “This investment in the community is part of our commitment to help solve the issue of access and support patients when they need care,” stated Brian Hoerneman, M.D., president and CEO of Marshfield Clinic. “With this hospital, patients gain a front door into a broader, integrated network across Marshfield Clinic.”
Dr. Hoerneman emphasized the hospital’s role as a connection point for patients requiring specialized care. “If someone needs advanced cardiac care, complex surgery, or specialized treatment, this campus becomes the bridge that connects them to nearby facilities, including those in Marshfield, Stevens Point and Weston.” This tiered system of care allows patients to receive the appropriate level of treatment, leveraging the expertise and resources available throughout the Marshfield Clinic system.
Comprehensive Services Available
Beyond the core hospital services, the Wisconsin Rapids Center continues to offer a wide array of specialized care. Cardiology services address heart health concerns, while family medicine provides comprehensive primary care for individuals and families. Optometry ensures access to vision care, and cancer care offers specialized treatment for oncology patients.
Pediatric services cater to the unique healthcare needs of children, and physical therapy assists patients in regaining mobility and function. Podiatry focuses on foot and ankle health, and nephrology provides care for kidney-related conditions. The center offers outreach services in other specialty areas, along with convenient access to lab and optical services.
A Commitment to the Community
The opening of Marshfield Medical Center-Wisconsin Rapids Campus represents a significant investment in the health and well-being of the local community. By bringing hospital and emergency services closer to home, Marshfield Clinic aims to improve access to care, enhance patient outcomes, and strengthen the overall healthcare infrastructure in the region.
