Maruja & Saoirse: “Saoirse” – Song for Peace & Palestine
maruja Announces European Tour Dates Following Electrifying north American Run
Spanish rock outfit Maruja is set to bring their high-octane live show to Europe with a series of dates announced for late 2024. The news comes after a successful, albeit intense, North american tour that saw the band connect with audiences on a profound level.
A Tour of Intense Connection and Political Resonance
Bassist Matt Buonaccorsi recently shared his reflections on the band’s North American journey with NME,describing the crowds as “some of the most energetic and frightening crowds we’ve ever had.” He specifically highlighted a show in New york, calling it “possibly my favorite show ever.” This sentiment underscores the powerful connection Maruja forged with their fans across the continent.
The band’s tour wasn’t just about raw energy; it also touched upon broader societal and political themes. Buonaccorsi alluded to the ongoing discussions surrounding freedom of expression in music, a topic brought to the forefront by Kneecap’s advocacy for Palestine at Coachella. He expressed encouragement at the level of engagement from Maruja’s own fanbase.
“With the discourse, we’re in very politically sensitive times for both our countries – probably more so for America right now,” Buonaccorsi told NME. “It meant that on some level, we could really relate to the fans that we were meeting. For the fans that were coming down to our shows across the States, they understood that our message is very much to be wary of authoritarianism and how that can descend into all kinds of ugly places.”
He further elaborated on the shared understanding between the band and their audience: “America is having a tough time right now. All the fans that were coming down were the exact type of crowd that would cheer, go crazy in moshpits. We welcomed each other with open arms. We look forward to much more of that.” This mutual respect and shared viewpoint created a unique atmosphere at their shows, transforming them into more than just musical performances but also spaces for shared sentiment.
