- According to exclusive reporting by Variety on February 19, 2026, Marvel Studios has canceled the second season of the Disney+ comedy series Wonder Man.
According to exclusive reporting by Variety on February 19, 2026, Marvel Studios has canceled the second season of the Disney+ comedy series Wonder Man. Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, who starred as aspiring actor and secret superhero Simon Williams, addressed the surprise cancellation directly on Instagram after the news broke.
“Word just dropped that Wonder Man won’t be coming back for Season 2. (And if you don’t knowww, now ya knoww!” Abdul-Mateen wrote on Instagram, referencing Variety’s reporting. “That’s life, right? Everything will shake out.”
Abdul-Mateen starred in the series alongside Ben Kingsley, who reprised his role as Trevor Slattery from previous Marvel Cinematic Universe projects. Wonder Man was created by Destin Daniel Cretton and Andrew Guest, with Cretton directing the first two episodes and Guest serving as showrunner.
The Season 1 cast also featured X Mayo, Demetrius Grosse, Zlatko Burić, Arian Moayed, Josh Gad, and Olivia Thirlby. The series premiered on Disney+ in January 2026 and earned positive reviews from critics, securing a 91 percent approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
Reviewing the series for Variety, critic Alison Herman wrote that Abdul-Mateen and Kingsley made their characters equally ridiculous and romantic, driven by motives more intimate and individual than saving the world.
Disney announced in March 2025 that Wonder Man had been renewed for a second season. However, according to industry sources cited by Variety, a writers’ room for the second season was never opened.
Earlier in February 2026, Abdul-Mateen earned a Primetime Emmy nomination for outstanding lead actor in a comedy series, adding to his previous Emmy win for Watchmen. Despite the abrupt shift in the show’s fortunes, the actor maintained an upbeat perspective.
He thanked viewers who watched and shared the series, highlighting the engagement he observed online and in person.
“The show worked. And that’s my favorite thing about it,” Abdul-Mateen wrote on Instagram. “I could see it on the faces of the Youtube Reactors (because I watched along with y’all this time. Shoutout to y’all) and I can see in the messages I get saying how the show reminded some of you not to give up, and I feel it in the genuine love shared when I bump into some of you all during the day. So, thinking of you all today.”
He concluded his social media post by thanking the audience and looking ahead to the upcoming awards ceremony, writing that he was glad to be part of something cool and would see fans at the Emmys.
While Wonder Man will not proceed with a second season, fans may not have seen the last of the show’s principal characters. According to an individual with knowledge of the situation cited by Variety, Simon Williams and Trevor Slattery could still appear in future Marvel projects.
