Marvel MaXimum Collection Brings Classic X-Men Arcade & More to Modern Consoles

Marvel MaXimum Collection Brings Classic X-Men Arcade & More to Modern Consoles

February 25, 2026 Marcus Rodriguez Entertainment

Konami, Marvel Games, and Limited Run Games are teaming up to deliver a nostalgic blast from the past with Marvel MaXimum Collection, a compilation of 13 classic Marvel games spanning arcade, NES, SNES, Game Boy, Game Gear, and Sega Genesis platforms. The collection, announced on Wednesday, February 25, 2026, aims to recapture the magic of the 16-bit era for a new generation of gamers – and offer a generous dose of nostalgia for those who remember the originals.

At the heart of the collection is X-Men: The Arcade Game, Konami’s beloved 1992 beat-’em-up. This marks a significant re-release, as the game was previously available digitally on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in 2010. But the MaXimum Collection isn’t solely focused on the X-Men. The initial lineup also includes Captain America and The Avengers, and a trio of Spider-Man titles: Spider-Man/Venom: Maximum Carnage, Venom/Spider-Man: Separation Anxiety, and Spider-Man/X-Men: Arcade’s Revenge. Rounding out the announced titles is the notoriously difficult Silver Surfer for the NES.

The appeal of these games extends beyond simple nostalgia. Many of these titles were formative experiences for a generation of gamers, representing a peak in licensed video game quality. X-Men: The Arcade Game, in particular, is remembered for its vibrant graphics, engaging gameplay, and the ability to team up with friends – a feature the MaXimum Collection is bringing back with a modern twist. The collection will feature six-player online multiplayer with rollback netcode, aiming to replicate the experience of gathering around a crowded arcade cabinet.

Beyond the core games, Limited Run Games is adding features designed to enhance the experience for modern players. Save states and a rewind function will offer a helping hand to those struggling with the challenges of older titles, like the infamously unforgiving Silver Surfer. The collection will also include an Archive section, offering high-resolution scans of original box art, instruction manuals, and vintage advertisements, providing a deeper dive into the history of these games. A music player and display options, including CRT and scanline filters, will allow players to customize the visual presentation to their liking.

The release of Marvel MaXimum Collection arrives amidst a broader resurgence of interest in retro Marvel games. The success of Marvel vs. Capcom Fighting Collection: Arcade Classics demonstrated a strong appetite for classic fighting games, while Marvel Cosmic Invasion (released in 2025) offered a fresh take on the beat-’em-up genre inspired by these earlier titles. This collection taps into that same vein, offering a curated selection of beloved games from a pivotal era in gaming history.

This year is shaping up to be a significant one for Marvel Games, with several high-profile releases already on the horizon. Marvel’s Wolverine, developed by Insomniac Games, is slated for release in September, while Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls is expected in August. Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra is also planned for release in 2026, adding further depth to Marvel’s gaming portfolio.

While a specific release date for Marvel MaXimum Collection has not yet been announced, it is confirmed to be coming to Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, Windows PC (via Steam), and Xbox Series X. The collection represents a thoughtful effort to preserve and celebrate a significant chapter in both Marvel and video game history, offering a compelling package for both longtime fans and newcomers alike. The partnership between Konami, Marvel Games, and Limited Run Games signals a growing recognition of the value – both cultural and commercial – of revisiting these classic titles.
