Marvel Studios Reduces Movie Output Post-Phase 5: What to Expect in 2025
MCU Movie Output Changes After Phase 5
Marvel Studios is reducing its movie output following Phase 5 of the MCU. In 2024, the only theatrical release will be Deadpool & Wolverine. Additionally, two live-action projects, Echo and Agatha All Along, will also debut. This reduction follows a busy period from 2021 to 2023, during which the studio released ten movies and nine live-action series.
In 2025, the output is expected to increase again as Phase 5 ends and Phase 6 begins. Two movies, Captain America: Brave New World and Thunderbolts, will premiere that year.
Kevin Feige’s Insights on Future Releases
Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige shared insights on future release schedules. He stated that the studio plans to establish a more normal pace. The new plan includes two films and three series annually, beginning after Phase 5. Feige emphasized that while they aim for this pace, 2025 will still see higher output with notable films.
Feige confirmed that the new Phase 6 will kick off with The Fantastic Four: First Steps in July 2025. He also mentioned the upcoming Avengers films, Doomsday and Secret Wars, which require significant focus.
Number of Projects Post-Phase 5
Looking ahead, Marvel has three movies and six new series planned for 2025. This results in a total of nine projects. The year 2024 will conclude with What If…? Season 3, marking a quieter year for the franchise.
Despite the lower output in 2024, Marvel continues to work on numerous projects without specific release dates. Three confirmed movies—Blade, Shang-Chi 2, and Armor Wars—await scheduling. Several Disney+ series are also in the pipeline but remain unannounced.
The MCU will next appear on Disney+ with What If…? Season 3 on December 22, followed by Captain America: Brave New World on February 14, 2025.
