Marvel’s Spider-Man 2’s PC port is already getting slammed by Steam users
Spider-Man 2’s PC Launch: Mixed Reception Amid Performance Issues
Marvel fans eagerly welcomed Spider-Man 2 to PC yesterday, but early reviews on Steam are painting a mixed picture. As of today, nearly half of the 2,100 reviews (at time of writing) are criticizing the game’s stability, with many users reporting bugs, crashes, and optimization issues.
Gamers sporting high-end rigs driving the latest drivers aren’t spared from these problems. One reviewer quipped, "Devs that ported this should be embarrassed. Optimisation is incredibly poor," while another sounded the alarm after just 30 minutes of gameplay: "To say this is ‘rough’ is an understatement."
Performance issues aren’t the only concern. Some users are pointing out graphics glitches—like unloaded lighting in cutscenes—and audio desyncs. Refund requests are pouring in, with some players parting with words of caution for potential buyers: "Unfortunately, the launch is pretty bad."
However,-not all reviews are bad. Some players are standing by the game despite its rough start, citing their faith in Insomniac Games to resolve the issues. One user lauded their confidence in the devs, saying, "I’m only recommending it because I believe they will solve these issues…"
Earlier this week, Sony made headlines when it ditched the requirement for a PlayStation Network account to play its PC titles. In exchange, it’s offering in-game perks to encourage users to sign in. Whether this move will impact the PC reception of Spider-Man 2 remains to be seen.
Despite the mixed Steam reviews, Spider-Man 2 has already left a mark on PC gamers, with its bugs and optimization issues sparking lively discussions and expectations for upcoming patches.
