Masashi Kishimoto Announces New Naruto Manga Shadow Rising

Naruto is returning to both manga and anime following a major announcement at New York Comic Con 2026, IGN France reported. Series creator Masashi Kishimoto has confirmed a new manga titled Shadow Rising alongside a brand-new crossover anime series.

Shadow Rising and Naruto x Ninku Anime Details

Details regarding the new manga remain scarce beyond Kishimoto’s involvement and the title Shadow Rising. The anime project, however, carries more concrete production details. Titled Naruto x Ninku, the series is a crossover between Naruto and the 1990s franchise Ninku.

According to an official description provided by Naruto x Ninku, Kakashi assigns Naruto, Sasuke, and Sakura—collectively known as the order of the 7—a mission. Because Kakashi cannot join them, Naruto takes over as acting leader. On their journey, the team gets lost in an alternate world and encounters a frog-faced boy named Fūsuke.

Production on Naruto x Ninku is fully supervised by Kishimoto and Ninku author Koji Kiriyama. Noriyuki Abe directs the project, while Tetsuya Nishio serves as character designer and chief animation director.

Live Action Movie Updates from Destin Daniel Cretton

Variety reported that the Naruto panel also featured a surprise message regarding the upcoming live-action film. Director Destin Daniel Cretton shared a statement discussing his approach to the adaptation.

What I’ve always loved about Naruto is that he’s the kind of character who, in normal times, would be relegated to the background as an acolyte. He’s impulsive, he does too much, and people underestimate him. But he has an incredible heart. No matter how many times he fails or gets put down, he never stops believing in himself nor fighting for those he loves.

Cretton added that the creative team approaches Kishimoto’s universe with care to capture what makes the property unique.

Jump Festa 2027 and Release Timelines

A YouTube video for Shadow Rising indicated that further information will be revealed during the Naruto Super Stage at Jump Festa 2027. Release dates for both the manga and the Naruto x Ninku anime series have not been announced.
