Massachusetts High School Hockey: Recent Standout Performances

The Massachusetts high school hockey scene has seen a flurry of activity recently, with several players delivering standout performances across various divisions. As of today, February 3, 2026, teams are continuing to compete with intensity as they build towards the postseason.

In Division 4 boys hockey, Winthrop emerged victorious in the 2025 championship, defeating Dedham with a score of 3-0. The MIAA Division 4 bracket was headlined by Stoneham, who earned the No. 1 seed after a 14-6-0 regular season. Hanover secured the No. 2 seed with a 12-4-4 record, while Dover-Sherborn (11-8-2) and Littleton (17-3-0) rounded out the top four as the No. 3 and No. 4 seeds, respectively. The championship game was held on March 16, 2025, at TD Garden.

Several players have recently made significant contributions to their teams. James Nelson, Brendan Gazda and Brayden Carlson each scored in North Reading’s 4-1 win over Pentucket. Andrew Archer proved to be the hero for Littleton/Bromfield, scoring the overtime winner in a 2-1 victory against Lunenburg, with Theodore Mitrano also finding the back of the net. Wilmington secured a 4-3 win over Stoneham for the second time this season, thanks to two goals each from Isaac Tavares and Colin Allard.

Mike D’Ambrosio scored the lone goal for Winthrop in a 1-1 tie against Danvers. Gavin O’Leary had a standout performance for Monomoy/Mashpee, notching a hat trick in their 5-1 win over Old Rochester, with Luke Raftery and Max Cronen also contributing goals. Cam Long (2 goals), Nolan McDonald, Jaxon Hoey, and Evan Shea each scored for Norwell in their 5-2 win against Cohasset/Hull.

Abington’s Sam McDonald had a remarkable game, scoring three goals and adding two assists in a 5-2 win over E/W Bridgewater. Derek O’Neill, Sean Duggan, and LJ Cleary also scored for Abington. Hudson defeated John Paul II 4-1, with Toby Edie scoring a hat trick and Tommy Chamberlain adding a goal. Jordan Sousa contributed with two assists.

Dover-Sherborn/Weston earned a 4-0 win over Norton, fueled by four third-period goals from Tommy Lamb (2 goals), Max Patenaude, and Jameson Murphy. St. Bernard’s had a strong showing against Monty Tech, led by Matt Sylvia (1 goal, 5 assists), Will Canada (3 goals), and Evan Walker (2 goals, 1 assist). Medway defeated Bellingham 6-2, with Jason Drake scoring four goals and Silas Mandeville adding a pair.

Looking ahead, the competition is expected to remain fierce as teams vie for playoff positioning. Catholic Memorial recently regained the top spot in the Globe Top 20 boys’ hockey rankings, a position they last held on January 1. On January 14, 2026, Catholic Memorial defeated BC High 4-1, with junior forward Dan Antonellis delivering a standout performance, scoring one goal and adding two assists.

The hockey season continues to provide exciting moments and showcase the talent within Massachusetts high school programs.
