‘MasterChef: Dynamic Duos’ Cooks Up Sweet and Spicy challenge
Updated June 19, 2025
The heat was on in the latest episode of “MasterChef: Dynamic Duos” as the top 11 duos faced a complex Mystery Box challenge. Judges gordon Ramsay,Tiffany Derry, and Joe Bastianich tasked the contestants with combining sweet and spicy ingredients into a harmonious dish. The winning duo would gain an advantage, while the team with the least accomplished dish would be eliminated.
This season’s contestants include brothers Adam and Joel from Athens, Ga., siblings Ashley and Ricky from Orlando, Fla.,and Buffalo,N.Y., and divorced exes Azu and Javier from Miami Beach and Miami, Fla. Other teams include animal nurses Darce and Courtney, long-term partners Jessica and jesse, MasterChef Junior besties Kayla and ryan Kate, married couple Rachel and Julio, newlyweds Timothy and Athena, aunt and niece Tina and right, and married couple Zach and Michelle.
The challenge required each pair to use at least two ingredients from both the sweet and spicy boxes. To add another layer, the contestants were presented with 11 protein options, assigned by last week’s winners, Zach and Michelle. Darce and Courtney, who had never cooked meat before in the competition, were strategically given chicken.
After 60 minutes of intense cooking, the judges tasted the dishes and named their top three.
Top 3 Dishes
- Jessica & Jesse: Seared Prawns with Sweet Carrot & Ginger Puree,Spicy Shrimp & ‘Nduja Jus,and Mustard Greens.
- Rachel & Julio: Seared Octopus with Patatas bravas, spicy Salsa Roja, and Sweet Chambord Pickled Apples & Radishes.
- Tina & right: Korean Style BBQ Short Rib with Radish Kimchi and Garlic Rice.
Rachel and Julio were ultimately crowned the winners for their balanced and flavorful seared octopus dish. Ramsay saeid it was delicious but wanted more sauce. Derry said they brought it and the octopus was tender. bastianich said it was better than octopus in some of his restaurants.

bottom 3 Dishes
- Azu & Javier: Spiced Venison with Sweet Beurre Rouge Sauce,Mashed Potatoes, and Salad.
- Ashley & Ricky: Spiced-Rubbed Filet Mignon with Dirty Rice,Sweet Chambord Sauce and Radish,Mango & Pineapple Slaw.
- Zach & Michelle: Crispy Skin Duck Breast with Sweet Cherry Red Wine Sauce, duck Fat Mashed Potatoes, and Spicy Mustard Greens.
Azu and Javier, Ashley and Ricky, and Zach and Michelle landed in the bottom three. Ultimately, Ashley and Ricky were eliminated. Ramsay noted that their filet had gone gray because they threw it back in the oven twice. Derry said it just didn’t come together. Bastianich said the filet was over-seared.

Ashley and Ricky said they could cook a lot better than what they showed and being eliminated definitely sucks.
