Materazzi Heads to Rio for Adriano’s Farewell Match
Former Inter Milan defender Marco Materazzi will be among the players joining Adriano Leite Ribeiro for his farewell match at the iconic Maracanã Stadium in Rio de Janeiro.
Speaking to Globo,Materazzi expressed his excitement about returning to Brazil,a country he holds dear. “This is my third time in Rio,and I love it,” he said. “I’m trying to show my children what this country means to those who love football. Playing at the Maracanã is a dream come true.”
Materazzi reminisced about his time playing alongside Adriano at Inter Milan, highlighting the Brazilian striker’s incredible talent.”Adriano was unbelievable,” he recalled. “When he arrived, I wanted to take the free kick against Real Madrid, but luckily, he took it. That’s when the whole world discovered him. He had stints in Florence and Parma, which is a shame because he could have been a huge asset to us during the season we lost the title on the last day. He could have made a real difference. He had the potential to achieve even more, and I always tell him that. Above him, perhaps, there was only the man who is walking past us right now (Ronaldo nazário).”
Materazzi emphasized the enduring friendship he shares with Adriano, stating, “He’s a friend, a person who deserves to have us all here on the field for him.”
The Italian defender also took the prospect to praise Ronaldo Nazário, declaring him the greatest player of all time. “For me,he’s the best ever,” Materazzi stated. “As 25 years ago,he was doing what Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo are doing today, but at an incredible speed.”
