Matty Healy Hints Taylor Swift’s ‘Guilty As Sin’ Is About Him
Matty Healy may have confirmed his link to Taylor Swift‘s song “Guilty as Sin” from her album The Tortured Poets Department. On November 18, he posted a cover of “Downtown Lights” by Annie Lennox on Instagram, a song mentioned in Swift’s lyrics: “Drowning in the Blue Nile, he sent me ‘Downtown Lights.’”
Fans had speculated that much of the record reflected Healy’s influence. Swift’s opening lines in “Guilty as Sin?” suggest a connection to him. Social media users highlighted Healy’s post, interpreting it as a nod to the song’s themes, which explore romantic longing and emotional complexity.
Another track, “Florida!!!”, features lyrics that some fans believe relate to Swift’s relationship with Healy. Swift sings about needing to escape to Florida after her breakup with Joe Alwyn.
Healy is known for his relaxed demeanor regarding these discussions. A friend noted he finds the attention amusing but does not consider his relationship with Swift to have been serious.
The songs “Guilty as Sin?” and “Fresh Out The Slammer” depict the emotional turmoil from Swift’s past relationship, capturing themes of longing and regret. In contrast, other songs in TTPD have been interpreted as less flattering, hinting at more negative aspects of their connection.
Both Healy and Swift have moved on from their brief romance. Healy recently got engaged to model Gabbriette Bechtel, while Swift has been dating NFL player Travis Kelce since the summer of 2023. Swift has also written songs inspired by Kelce, revealing her new relationship in her music.
