Court Hears of Alleged ‘Secret’ Mobile Phone to John Magnier’s rival Bidder for Barne Estate
Dublin, Ireland – A High Court hearing has revealed allegations of a “secret” mobile phone used to communicate with a rival bidder in the ongoing sale of the historic Barne Estate. The court heard claims that this interaction may have influenced the bidding process, raising questions about transparency and fairness.
The Barne Estate Sale: A Contentious Auction
The sale of the Barne Estate, a property of significant ancient and agricultural value, has become the subject of intense legal scrutiny. The proceedings have highlighted a complex web of alleged communications and potential interference, with one party claiming their bids were unfairly disadvantaged.
Allegations of Improper Contact
During the court proceedings, Mr. Gallagher, representing one of the parties involved, put it to Mr. Regan that his contact with certain individuals who possessed knowledge of the deal was “highly improper.” Mr. Regan, however, defended his actions, stating that being “blocked out at a higher price than a lower price is improper.”
Mr. Regan explained that legal letters sent to the joint estate agents handling the sale were not intended to “frighten” or “threaten.” His primary concern, he asserted, was ensuring his bids were actually reaching the trustees of the estate.
When questioned by Mr. Hayden, it was revealed that neither the defendants nor anyone associated with the Magnier side had ever written to Mr. Regan to ask him to desist from his bidding.
