Mauritania Mourns the Loss of Former Foreign Minister Dr. Mohamed Mahmoud Ould Mohamedou
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Mauritanians Abroad is mourning the loss of Dr. Mohamed Mahmoud Ould Mohamedou, former Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, who passed away on Tuesday morning in Geneva.
Dr. Ould Mohamedou had a distinguished career in diplomacy and academia, serving as Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation in Mauritania from 2008 to 2009. He was a renowned expert in international relations and diplomacy.
In a statement, the ministry described Dr. Ould Mohamedou as a “patriot and a pillar of the Mauritanian diplomatic family.” His contributions to the field of diplomacy and international relations will be deeply missed.
Dr. Ould Mohamedou was born in the city of Atar, Mauritania, and pursued his higher education in Spain, France, and the United States. He earned a doctorate in political science from the City University of New York.
His academic career began as a visiting scholar at Harvard University, where he later worked as a research associate at the United Nations Ralph Bunche Foundation. Dr. Ould Mohamedou held various academic and research positions, including Director of the Research Center at the International Council for Human Rights Policy in Geneva.
He also served as Assistant Director of the Humanitarian Policy and Conflict Research Program at Harvard University and as a visiting professor at the Institute for International and Development Studies in Geneva. Dr. Ould Mohamedou was a researcher at the Geneva Institute for Security Studies.
Dr. Ould Mohamedou was a leading expert in the field of modern forms of international terrorism, with several notable publications to his name. His work has significantly contributed to the understanding of this complex issue.
