Mauritania Leaps into the Future: Pioneering a Thriving Green Economy in the Sahara
Mauritania’s Commitment to a Green Economy and Hydrogen Production
Mauritania’s President, Mohamed Ould Cheikh Ghazouani, has reaffirmed the country’s dedication to playing a leading role in the global green economy, particularly in the field of hydrogen production.
During a working lunch organized by the Paris Charter Alliance for People and Planet Earth, held on the sidelines of the 79th regular session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York, President Ould Ghazouani stated that Mauritania is prepared to utilize its vast potential in renewable energy to serve the continent and the global economy.
Mauritania’s unique geography, with a 750-kilometer coastline featuring consistent winds of over 9 meters per second, presents an ideal opportunity for the development of massive wind farms. The country’s lands also benefit from an exceptional amount of sunshine, making Mauritania, and consequently Africa, a significant player in the transition to a low-carbon economy and green hydrogen production.
President Ould Ghazouani emphasized the need for Africa, as the continent most vulnerable to the effects of climate change, to play a full part in negotiations and secure guarantees of sustainable and predictable financial support.
