Mauritania Secures Crucial Victory in African Qualifiers
The national football team of Mauritania secured a vital win against Botswana on Saturday night, with a score of 1-0, courtesy of Sidi Bou Omar’s last-minute goal at the Shekha Bidey Stadium. This victory marked the first round of the African qualifiers for the 2025 African Nations Finals.
This win earned the national team three crucial points, propelling them to second place in their group, just behind Egypt on goal difference. The Egyptian team had also secured a win against the Cape Verde Islands team, with a score of 3-0.
Sidi Bou Omar’s goal was a significant milestone for the national team, as it marked the end of an eight-game drought without a goal. The last time the team scored was when captain Yahya Delahi scored against Algeria in the final round of the group stage of the last African Nations Championship, held in Ivory.
