Mauritania Takes Bold Step: Groundbreaking Sahara Media Price Stabilization Program Unveiled
Mauritania Launches Urgent Program to Stabilize Prices of Basic Materials
The Prime Minister of Mauritania, Mokhtar Ould Ajay, has announced the launch of an urgent program aimed at stabilizing, reducing, and supporting the prices of essential commodities. This initiative includes setting a price ceiling that ensures a reasonable profit margin for businesses.
During his presentation of the government’s general policy program to the National Assembly, Ould Ajay explained that the program will be achieved through the monitoring of stock levels in markets, prevention of speculation and monopoly, and the establishment of a price ceiling that takes into account the arrival price and a reasonable profit margin. This margin will be updated periodically.
The emergency program will focus on key commodities, including wheat, rice, sugar, oil, meat, and cement. The Prime Minister expressed his hope for cooperation from professionals in the trade sector to ensure the program’s success.
In a related development, the Ministry of Trade and Tourism has signed a protocol agreement with the Trade Union to determine and reduce the prices of sugar, rice, oil, wheat, concentrated milk, cement, and domestic gas.
