Mavs Trade Discussions Focus on Anthony Davis, Raptors Remain Interested
As of Wednesday afternoon, February 4, 2026, the Dallas Mavericks’ most active trade discussions surrounding forward Anthony Davis center on the Toronto Raptors, though a deal is not currently imminent, sources have told ESPN.
Mavs governor Patrick Dumont has reportedly communicated internally that he does not feel pressured to trade Davis before the NBA trade deadline on Thursday, February 5, 2026.
The Mavericks began exploring trade options for Davis, 32, after the firing of former general manager Nico Harrison in early November. The decision to remove Harrison was, in part, influenced by fan reaction to last year’s trade that sent Luka Doncic to the Los Angeles Lakers in exchange for Davis.
Interim co-GMs Michael Finley and Matt Riccardi are currently leading basketball operations while the ownership group vets candidates for a permanent replacement for Harrison.
Discussions have also taken place regarding center Daniel Gafford, according to sources.
The Atlanta Hawks and the Raptors have been the most engaged teams in talks with Dallas concerning Davis over the past few months. However, discussions with the Hawks have stalled, though there is a possibility of a renewed offer from Atlanta involving expiring contracts as the deadline approaches.
If a trade with Toronto is completed, the Mavericks would likely need to accept significant salary commitments extending into future seasons. Dallas is prioritizing acquiring draft compensation in any potential deal with the Raptors.
The Raptors have been actively seeking frontcourt additions and have also engaged in discussions with the Sacramento Kings regarding center Domantas Sabonis, sources said. They also previously held talks with the Memphis Grizzlies about forward Jaren Jackson Jr before Jackson was traded to the Utah Jazz on Tuesday.
Davis, currently sidelined with a hand injury sustained in early January, is averaging 20.1 points and 11.1 rebounds in 20 games this season. He is expected to miss the next six weeks, but a second opinion confirmed he will not require surgery.
The Mavericks (19-31) are currently on a five-game losing streak and hold the 12th position in the Western Conference, trailing the 10th-place Portland Trail Blazers (23-28) by 3.5 games.
The Raptors (30-21) are currently tied with the Cleveland Cavaliers for fourth place in the Eastern Conference playoff race.
Davis’s current salary is $54.1 million, tied for the fifth-highest cap hit in the league. He is scheduled to earn $58.5 million in the 2026-27 season and has a $62.8 million player option for the 2027-28 campaign.
