MIAMI – Red Bull Racing’s Max Verstappen, the reigning Formula One world champion, unexpectedly withdrew from scheduled media appearances ahead of the Miami Grand Prix, fueling speculation that he and his partner, Kelly Piquet, are welcoming their first child.
Verstappen,27,was slated to participate in the customary pre-race press conferences and media sessions on Thursday. Though, a message conveyed via WhatsApp confirmed his absence.
Red Bull Confirms Verstappen’s Absence
Red Bull Racing’s press representative, Paul Smith, issued a statement confirming Verstappen’s withdrawal. “Max will not participate in media day as he awaits the birth of his baby,” Smith stated. “All is well, and he will start the race weekend on Friday.”
Speculation Surrounds the Birth
Sources indicate that Verstappen was in Monaco in anticipation of the birth. His private jet reportedly departed from the Nice, France, area around 4 p.m. local time on Thursday. However,details surrounding the actual birth remain unconfirmed.
It is indeed unknown whether the baby has already been born.
Piquet’s Background
Kelly Piquet, 36, is the daughter of former Formula One driver Nelson Piquet, 72, of Brazil. This is her second child; she has a daughter from a previous relationship with Daniil Kvyat, 31, also a former Formula One driver.
