Maxime Cressy Steps Away from ATP Tour to Focus on Back Injury Recovery

Maxime Cressy, the American known for his distinctive serve-and-volley style, has announced a temporary hiatus from the ATP Tour to address a persistent lower back injury. The 28-year-old shared the news on Instagram this week, revealing that the pain has reached a point where he can no longer compete effectively in matches.
A Difficult Decision for a Dedicated Player
Cressy,who reached a career-high ranking of World no. 31 in August 2022, has been battling severe lower back pain as 2023. Despite his efforts to play through the discomfort,the injury has now made it unfeasible for him to compete at the level required on the tour.
“I just wanted to be honest and obvious: I’ve decided to step away from the Tour for the time being to focus on recovering from an ongoing lower back injury,” Cressy stated in his Instagram post. “Since 2023, I have had severe lower back pain but I played through it again and again. Today, it has reached a point where I can no longer compete in an entire match competitively.”
He further expressed his commitment to his career, adding, “I have dedicated my entire life to becoming the best tennis player I can be, I wished it was to be the best but I know that I have given my absolute best effort and I have the peace of mind with that knowingness.”
