Maxwell recounted a net session before a match against South Africa in manchester, saying he had slipped into a dark place, unaware at the time that he was battling mild depression and anxiety. During that session at Old Trafford,both Maxwell and Shaun Marsh were struck on the arms. Marsh was ruled out of the World Cup, while Maxwell continued playing, scoring 177 runs in 10 games at an average of 22.12.
