Ghislaine Maxwell, convicted for her role in Jeffrey Epstein’s sex trafficking crimes, has offered to provide information that could clear both Donald Trump and Bill Clinton of any wrongdoing related to Epstein, in exchange for clemency from her 20-year prison sentence.

The extraordinary proposal was made by Maxwell’s attorney, David Oscar Markus, during a virtual deposition before the House Oversight Committee on Monday, February 9, 2026. The overture ensures the Epstein saga will remain a significant political issue.

“Ms. Maxwell is prepared to speak fully and honestly if granted clemency by President Trump,” Markus said in a statement during the deposition, which he later posted on X. “Only she can provide the complete account. Some may not like what they hear, but the truth matters. For example, both President Trump and President Clinton are innocent of any wrongdoing.”

Markus further stated that “Ms. Maxwell alone can explain why, and the public is entitled to that explanation.”

Maxwell invoked her Fifth Amendment right against self-incrimination and refused to answer questions posed by the committee, citing a pending habeas petition challenging the fairness of her trial and conviction. Despite remaining silent during the formal questioning, the offer to cooperate in exchange for freedom was made clear.

President Trump has not publicly dismissed the possibility of a pardon or commutation for Maxwell. The timing of Maxwell’s offer comes as Trump faces scrutiny over his past relationship with Epstein and questions surrounding the handling of related Justice Department files.

Both Trump and Clinton have previously denied any wrongdoing concerning Epstein. The release of the so-called “Epstein files” has brought renewed attention to the connections between Epstein and numerous high-profile individuals.

House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer expressed disappointment with Maxwell’s decision to plead the Fifth, stating that lawmakers had “many questions to ask about the crime she and Epstein committed, as well as questions about potential co-conspiracy.”

Democrats on the committee accused Maxwell of attempting to leverage a pardon by refusing to testify. Representative Melanie Stansbury stated, “We will not allow this silence to stand.”

Maxwell was moved to a minimum-security prison last year after a meeting between her attorneys and Trump’s Deputy Attorney General and former personal lawyer. This move, coupled with her recent offer, has fueled speculation about a potential deal.

The committee is also investigating Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick, who is facing calls for his resignation after discrepancies were found between his statements about his relationship with Epstein and evidence revealed in the released files. Comer indicated he would focus on upcoming depositions, including those of Clinton, rather than subpoenaing Lutnick at this time.

The Clintons are scheduled to appear for depositions later this month. The unfolding events underscore the continuing legal and political ramifications of the Epstein case, and the potential for further revelations.
