On the occasion of the 40th Teachers’ Day, on September 7, Mayor Ge Bin made a special trip to visit and express his condolences to Ye Lianping, a national outstanding Communist Party member and national moral model winner, and extended his holiday greetings and sincere blessings to him. Wang Qiang, vice chairman of the Municipal CPPCC and secretary general of the Municipal Government, attended the event.

Ye Lianping, 96 years old this year, is a retired teacher from Buchen School in Wujiang Town, He County. He has won honors such as China’s Good Man and the Most Beautiful Struggler of New China. In 2000, he founded the “Home for Left-behind Children” and has provided free English tutoring to more than 2,000 left-behind children for 24 years. In 2012, Ye Lianping took out his savings and, with the support of all sectors of society, established the “Ye Lianping Scholarship” to reward and support outstanding and needy students. Since its establishment, a total of more than 400,000 yuan has been distributed, and more than 400 students have been rewarded and supported.

At the “Home for Left-behind Minors” in Buchen Village, Wujiang Town, He County, Ge Bin had a heart-to-heart talk with Ye Lianping, asked about his health and living conditions, and sent him good wishes for the festival. Ge Bin expressed his high respect for his years of hard work and selfless dedication in the countryside, and hoped that he would take care of his health, give full play to his remaining energy, and continue to care about and support the city’s education work; he also urged relevant parties to continue to strengthen their care and concern, do their best to provide service guarantees, and effectively help solve practical difficulties so that the elderly can enjoy their old age better.
