Boston’s ONE+Boston program has assisted its 1000th homebuyer, according to Mayor Michelle Wu, marking a milestone in the city’s efforts to address housing affordability. “Reaching this important milestone shows the impact of a coordinated approach to housing,” Wu said in a statement. “We are not just helping residents…”

The mayor’s remarks highlight the program’s role in connecting first-time homebuyers with financial assistance, counseling, and streamlined access to housing opportunities. Launched in 2021, ONE+Boston consolidates multiple city housing initiatives into a single platform, aiming to simplify the process for residents seeking support.

According to city data, the program has facilitated over 1,000 homebuyers since its inception, with a focus on low- and moderate-income households. The initiative includes down payment assistance, mortgage counseling, and partnerships with local banks and credit unions to offer favorable loan terms.

“By unifying these resources under one umbrella, we’ve made it easier for residents to navigate the complexities of buying a home,” said Wu, who emphasized the program’s alignment with broader city goals to increase housing stability.

The milestone comes as Boston continues to grapple with rising housing costs and limited availability. A 2024 report by the Boston Redevelopment Authority found that the city’s median home price exceeded $850,000, with affordability challenges disproportionately affecting minority and lower-income communities.

ONE+Boston’s approach builds on similar programs in other U.S. cities, such as Chicago’s HomeBIKE and Seattle’s Housing Choice Voucher Program. However, local officials note that Boston’s model prioritizes direct engagement with residents through community outreach and digital tools.

City officials declined to provide specific metrics on the program’s success beyond the 1,000-homebuyer threshold. However, a 2025 internal review cited a 72% satisfaction rate among participants, with many reporting reduced stress and clearer guidance during the homebuying process.

The program’s funding comes from a combination of city budgets, state grants, and federal housing initiatives. In 2025, Boston secured $15 million in additional state funding to expand its outreach
