Mayweather vs. Pacquiao 2: Date, How to Watch, and What to Expect

Mayweather vs. Pacquiao 2: Date, How to Watch, and What to Expect

February 24, 2026 David Thompson - Sports Editor Sports

LAS VEGAS – Floyd Mayweather Jr. And Manny Pacquiao are set to reignite one of boxing’s most captivating rivalries, September 19, at the Sphere in Las Vegas. The rematch, confirmed on February 23, 2026, will be streamed live on Netflix, marking the first professional boxing event ever held at the groundbreaking venue.

More than eleven years after their initial encounter in May 2015, a fight that shattered pay-per-view and gate records, the two boxing legends will once again step into the ring. The announcement comes as a surprise to some, given both fighters are well into their forties, but the lucrative opportunity presented by Netflix and the potential for a massive global audience proved too compelling to resist.

“Floyd and I gave the world what remains the biggest fight in boxing history,” Pacquiao said in a news release. “The fans have waited long enough—they deserve this rematch, and it will be even bigger now that it will be streamed live globally on Netflix. I want Floyd to live with the one loss on his professional record and always remember who gave it to him.”

Mayweather, ever the confident competitor, offered a predictably dismissive response. “I already fought and beat Manny once. This time will be the same result,” he stated.

The original bout, held at the MGM Grand Garden Arena, saw Mayweather secure a unanimous decision victory, though the fight itself was often criticized for its tactical nature and lack of sustained action. Pacquiao later revealed he fought through a shoulder injury sustained during training camp, a claim that fueled calls for a rematch.

Both fighters are actively preparing for the September showdown. Pacquiao, April 18, will face former world champion Ruslan Provodnikov in an exhibition bout at the Thomas and Mack Center in Las Vegas. Mayweather, meanwhile, has plans for an exhibition against Mike Tyson, though the location and date of that fight remain fluid, with initial reports pointing to the Democratic Republic of Congo this year.

The landscape of combat sports has shifted dramatically since their first meeting. The success of recent events streamed on Netflix, notably Jake Paul’s fight against Mike Tyson, which drew a staggering 108 million global viewers, has demonstrated the platform’s potential to reach a massive audience and generate significant revenue. This has opened the door for matchups featuring veteran fighters who may not command the same pay-per-view numbers as they once did.

“Although Mayweather and Pacquiao are now 49 and 47, respectively, the boxing landscape has undergone a seismic shift that has made a rematch a decade after their first meeting far more compelling than it once seemed,” ESPN’s Andreas Hale reported. “Jake Paul is largely responsible.”

The financial incentives are substantial. Their first fight broke pay-per-view and gate records, generating $410 million in revenue from 4.6 million buys and a $72.2 million gate. While it’s unclear if the rematch will reach those heights, the potential for a significant payday, coupled with the global reach of Netflix, has undoubtedly played a key role in bringing the fight to fruition.

Mayweather’s professional record stands at an unblemished 50-0, with 27 knockouts. He hasn’t competed in a professional bout since stopping Conor McGregor in August 2017. Pacquiao, with a record of 62-8-2, has remained more active, compiling a 5-2-1 record since his first fight with Mayweather. He briefly retired after a decision loss to Yordenis Ugas in August 2021, but returned to the ring last July, fighting Mario Barrios to a majority draw.

The Sphere, a state-of-the-art entertainment venue known for its immersive video and audio capabilities, provides a unique backdrop for the rematch. The UFC held its Noche UFC pay-per-view event there on September 14, 2024, but this will be the first professional boxing card at the venue. The UFC event reportedly had production costs exceeding $20 million.

As both fighters approach the twilight of their careers, questions remain about their physical capabilities and the quality of the competition they will deliver. However, the rematch promises to be a compelling spectacle, fueled by the history between the two fighters, the allure of a global audience, and the potential for a lucrative payday. The key, according to Manny Pacquiao Promotions president Sean Gibbons, is that this is a “real fight, not an exhibition.”

Whether the rematch can live up to the hype of their first encounter remains to be seen, but one thing is certain: Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao are once again center stage, ready to write another chapter in their storied rivalry.
