Far from seeking public redemption, McCollum states her primary motivation for joining the gruelling reality show is personal growth and pushing her own boundaries.

McCollum, who was apprehended in Peru in 2013 attempting too smuggle cocaine, has spoken candidly about her decision to participate in the Channel 4 series. While admitting she hasn’t typically been drawn to reality television, the unique nature of Celebrity SAS appealed to her. “There’s no other show like that,” she explained, highlighting its reputation for extreme challenges.
“I thought it would be a really good way to test myself and try and push myself and do something wholly different,” McCollum shared.Reflecting on past life experiences that have already pushed her to her limits, she added, “Why not try this? Never in my life am I gonna face these type of challenges.”
The series sees 14 celebrities undergo rigorous special forces training, a stark contrast to McCollum’s previous experiences. She emphasized her personal investment in the journey: “I did that show for me. I wanted to improve myself and push myself. It wasn’t, ‘I’m doing this because I want people to like me.'”
McCollum acknowledged the inevitable public scrutiny that accompanies her participation.Though, she expressed a sense of acceptance regarding this aspect.”Not really, as I know that’s always going to exist,” she stated. “And any kind of decisions and things I make, there’s always that kind of scrutiny. So, I thought, whether I do the show, there’ll always be some kind of talk about that.”

Looking back on her time in prison, McCollum described it as an “extreme” experience but highlighted her ability to adapt. “I feel like I was incredibly adaptable, like I just kind of got along with it,” she recalled. initially, she felt guilt and a sense of deserving her punishment, adopting a mindset of simply enduring.
“But I feel like it made me an amazing person,” she reflected. “I came back when I was 23.” This period of her life, though challenging, appears to have fostered a sense of resilience and personal advancement that she now carries forward.

McCollum is joined by a diverse cast of well-known personalities on Celebrity SAS: Who Dares Wins. The lineup includes professional boxer Conor Benn, S club star Hannah Spearritt, and Love Island contestant Tasha Ghouri, who makes history as the frist celebrity deaf recruit on the show.
The seventh series of Celebrity SAS: Who Dares Wins promises an intense eight-week run, with episodes airing on Channel 4 every Sunday and Monday from 9 pm, commencing on August 3rd.
