Taipei, Taiwan – A tragic case of alleged sexual harassment at a McDonald’s restaurant in Taipei has sparked outrage adn calls for justice. The case gained national attention after a mother accused the fast-food giant of failing to protect her daughter, who tragically died by suicide after allegedly being sexually assaulted by her supervisor.

The mother took to social media, detailing her daughter’s harrowing experience and accusing McDonald’s of dismissing her complaints and failing to take appropriate action against the alleged perpetrator. She claimed her daughter suffered from depression following the alleged assault and that McDonald’s showed a lack of empathy and support for the victim.

The Taipei City police department confirmed they received a report in May regarding the alleged sexual assault and subsequently transferred the case to the Shilin District Prosecutor’s Office.

In a statement, McDonald’s Taiwan acknowledged receiving a sexual harassment complaint from a former employee in march.The company stated that it launched an investigation in accordance with the Gender Equality work Act and ultimately dismissed the alleged perpetrator in May. McDonald’s expressed deep regret over the employee’s death and emphasized its commitment to a zero-tolerance policy on workplace harassment. The company stated it is fully cooperating with the ongoing investigation.

The Shilin District Prosecutor’s Office urged the public to respect the family’s privacy and refrain from speculating about the case. They assured the public that a thorough investigation is underway.This case has ignited a national conversation about workplace safety and the handling of sexual harassment allegations.
