McDonald’s Says Supervisor Fired After Sexual Harassment investigation
Taipei, Taiwan – McDonald’s Taiwan has released a timeline detailing its handling of a sexual harassment complaint filed by a female employee against her supervisor. The company says it took swift action, culminating in the supervisor’s dismissal, and is cooperating fully with the ongoing judicial investigation.The case gained public attention after the employee’s family alleged on social media that she had been sexually assaulted by her supervisor while working at a McDonald’s restaurant. They claimed she suffered from depression consequently and that McDonald’s had fired her for “abuse” and denied any wrongdoing.
McDonald’s issued a statement outlining its response to the allegations. The company said it received the initial complaint on March 25th and promptly launched an investigation in accordance with Taiwan’s Gender Equality Work Law. An external team of experts with gender awareness was brought in to conduct interviews with both the complainant and the accused supervisor.
The investigation concluded on May 1st, and the company’s sexual harassment complaint management committee determined that sexual harassment had occurred. Due to the severity of the findings, the supervisor was dismissed on July 7th.
McDonald’s emphasized that it takes sexual harassment allegations extremely seriously and is committed to providing a safe and respectful work environment for all employees.the company stated that it has cooperated fully with the Shilin District Prosecutor’s Office, providing all relevant investigative facts.
“The sexual assault part entered the judicial process,” McDonald’s said in a statement. “We are awaiting a preliminary ruling and hope for a swift resolution that will provide an explanation to the victim and her family.”
The Shilin district Prosecutor’s Office confirmed that the case is currently under active investigation.
