Rory McIlroy, the current Masters champion, will not compete in next week’s Memorial Tournament in Ohio. This marks his first absence from the Jack Nicklaus-hosted event at Muirfield Village since 2017, scheduled for May 29-June 1.
this is the third PGA Tour signature event this year that McIlroy, 36, has skipped, following The Sentry and the RBC Heritage. The world’s No. 2 golfer last played at the U.S.PGA Championship,where he finished tied for 47th amid controversy over a driver change.
McIlroy did not address the media after any of his rounds at Quail Hollow. He previously stated his intention to reduce his playing schedule this season. he is scheduled to play in India for the first time in October and return to the Australian Open in december after an 11-year gap.
After a two-week break, McIlroy is set to return to competition at the Canadian Open on June 5. This event will serve as readiness for the U.S. Open at Oakmont in Pennsylvania, scheduled for June 12-15. The travelers Championship in Connecticut will follow as the season’s final signature event.
