McNeese Cowboys Face Santa Clara After Close Championship Loss to Liberty
Game Recap: Liberty vs. McNeese
On Monday night, Liberty defeated McNeese 62-58 to win the US Virgin Island Paradise Jam championship. Colin Porter led Liberty with 16 points, all from three-pointers. This loss dropped McNeese to a 4-3 season record, while Liberty improved to 7-1.
Both teams finished the first half tied at 29-29. McNeese briefly held a lead in the second half at 33-31, but Liberty responded with a 9-0 run to take command at 40-33. McNeese fought back, narrowing the score with strong performances from Christian Shumate and Sincere Parker, but could not pull ahead.
Five McNeese players scored in double figures, with Shumate leading with 13 points. Parker added 12 points, while Quadir Copeland, Javohn Garcia, and Brandon Murray contributed 11 and 10 points, respectively. Liberty’s Jayvon Maughmer was the only other double-figure scorer with 12 points.
The game featured a close finish. McNeese almost tied the game with 15 seconds left but missed key free throws. Liberty then sealed the win with successful shots from the line.
Both teams displayed strong shooting, with McNeese hitting 45% from the field and Liberty at 42%. McNeese will next face Santa Clara on December 3 at 6 p.m. at the Legacy Center.
