McNeice Overcomes Challenges too Secure Gold
Great Britain’s Erin mcneice secured the gold medal in the Women’s Boulder competition at the 2023 IFSC World Climbing Championships in Seoul,South korea,on September 26,2023. Her victory came after a challenging qualification round and a fourth-place finish in the Lead discipline earlier in the week.
the Boulder final featured the top eight climbers from the semi-final round, all vying for the gold medal. The competition was fierce, with several athletes demonstrating exceptional skill and technique.
A Tight final Round
Janja Garnbret, recently crowned Lead world champion, finished third with 84.3 points. She successfully topped the first three boulders but failed to complete the fourth and final boulder of the round. Garnbret was one of onyl three climbers to top both boulder one and boulder two.
USA’s Anne Sanders was the only other climber to top boulder two, while McNeice topped boulder one. Both McNeice and Sanders ultimately topped three boulders each.
McNeice and Sanders finished tied for first place with 84.6 points. Following the round, McNeice expressed her satisfaction with her performance, stating: “It was a lot of fun. After Lead finals it was hard to get into a good mindset again because I was so close to the podium, but I was really happy with how I climbed today.“
Addressing the pressure and environmental factors, the British climber added: “I was definitely feeling the pressure coming into this comp and was dealing with the temperature as well. It was just about staying calm and focusing on what I needed to do.“
