Editor’s Analysis

This case underscores the severity with which Irish courts treat repeat offenders, notably those‍ driving⁤ without insurance. While the solicitor presented mitigating circumstances regarding the defendant’s ⁣personal difficulties, the extensive history of road traffic violations clearly influenced the judge’s decision to impose a custodial sentence. The length of the driving ban also ⁢reflects the court’s concern for public safety. The ⁢fact that the vehicle was substantially over the speed limit adds to the seriousness of the offence.
