The action underscores the nation’s commitment to enforcing its immigration laws and maintaining border integrity.
Overstaying Visa Triggers Deportation
The primary offense leading to GS’s deportation was overstaying his visa, wich officially expired on December 19,2024. According to Ridha Syahputra, head of the Polonia Immigration Office, this constitutes a direct violation of the Indonesian Immigration Law No. 6/2011. Such breaches are taken very seriously by authorities, as they undermine the legal framework governing foreign nationals within the country.
Details of Apprehension and Examination
GS, along with another Indian citizen identified as SS, was apprehended on July 26, 2025. The arrests were made in the Bajak neighborhood of the Medan Amplas district, following credible tips from the public. This community involvement highlights the importance of public cooperation in identifying and reporting immigration irregularities.
The case of SS is currently under active investigation. SS was found to be without a valid stay permit, and his emergency certificate, a travel document issued by the Indian goverment, had expired on April 4, 2015. The ongoing investigation involves collaboration between various indonesian government agencies and the Indian representative office in Medan, ensuring a thorough and coordinated approach.
Strict Enforcement of Immigration Laws
“We do not tolerate any foreign national who violates Indonesian immigration rules,” stated Syahputra, emphasizing the firm stance of the immigration authorities. This deportation serves as a clear message to all foreign nationals residing in or planning to visit Indonesia: adherence to visa and stay permit regulations is paramount.
Broader Crackdown on Immigration Violations
The incident involving GS and SS is part of a wider, ongoing effort by Indonesian immigration authorities nationwide to crack down on foreign nationals found to be in violation of immigration laws. this proactive approach aims to ensure national security and maintain order within the country’s borders.
As an example of this broader enforcement, the Makassar Immigration Office reported deporting 21 foreign nationals between January and July of this year. These individuals hailed from various countries, including India, Malaysia, Japan, Pakistan, Cameroon, China, and turkey, all for immigration-related offenses. Such statistics demonstrate the consistent and widespread nature of these enforcement actions across the archipelago.
The Indonesian immigration system is dedicated to upholding the rule of law, ensuring that all foreign nationals respect the terms of thier entry and stay. This commitment is vital for the nation’s sovereignty and the orderly management of its population.
